We have a bit of a time crunch at the end of the term, so for their final responses to their book club readings, students are developing Flipgrid videos, which require planning and thinking through essential questions without the extensive writing process. Students were able to use their groups' collected notes from their previous book club meetings to guide their thinking as they developed their ideas. They used the following template to gather their ideas in preparation for their videos. The videos they produced are authentic representations of their learning; some students who struggle with writing were able to describe their their thoughts on the texts with unique insight, while others were appropriately challenged by the oral presentation aspect of the assignment. In all, it is a fun and easy way to mix up reading responses.
